How Long Does Brow Lamination Last?

How long does brow lamination last?

Brow lamination lasts four to six weeks for most people, and up to eight weeks with careful aftercare. The service restructures the hair you already have, so it fades as those hairs grow out. Getting them wet in the first 24 to 48 hours or using oil-based cleansers is what usually cuts it short.

Brow lamination lasts four to six weeks for most people. With good aftercare and a slower hair growth cycle, some clients get seven or eight.

It fades rather than falls off. The brows gradually relax back toward their natural direction as new hair grows in at the root.

If yours dropped in two weeks, that is not normal, and it usually has a specific cause. We will get to those.

Why lamination fades when it does

Lamination works by softening the bonds inside each brow hair, setting the hair in a new upward direction, then locking it back in place with a neutralizer.

The change is permanent for that hair, but hair keeps growing. New growth at the root comes in untreated and unlaminated, and after four to six weeks there is enough of it to change the shape.

That is why it lasts about as long as it does no matter how good the aftercare is. Aftercare protects the set you have. It cannot stop hair from growing.

Why yours faded in two weeks

When lamination drops early, it is almost always one of these four.

  • Water in the first 24 to 48 hours. The bonds are still settling. A shower with your face in the spray, a workout that leaves you sweating, or a swim will undo the set before it hardens.
  • Oil-based cleansers, oils, and rich creams. Oil breaks down the set faster than anything else in your routine. Cleansing balms and oil-based makeup removers are the usual culprits.
  • Exfoliating near the brow. Acids, scrubs, and retinol used right at the brow line strip the treated hair and loosen the shape.
  • Processing time that was off. Under-processed brows never fully take. Over-processed brows go brittle and break. Either way the result does not hold, and that one is on the technician, not you.

Aftercare that gets you to week eight

The first two days do most of the work.

  • Keep them completely dry for 24 to 48 hours. No steam, no sauna, no hard workouts, no face-down showers.
  • Skip makeup on the brow area for the first day.
  • Brush them up daily with a clean spoolie. Ten seconds, every morning.
  • Use a nourishing brow oil or castor oil after the first 48 hours, once a day. Yes, oil after the settling window is fine and actually helps, because dry hair breaks.
  • Keep acids and retinol away from the brow line.
  • Sleep on your back or a silk pillowcase if you are a face-down sleeper.

How often can you get it redone?

Every six to eight weeks is the safe rhythm. Sooner than six weeks and you are re-processing hair that is still recovering, which leads to frizz and breakage.

If your brows look ready at week five, brush them up and wait the extra week. Lamination is a chemical service, and brow hair does not grow back quickly when it breaks.

Does adding a tint change how long it lasts?

The lamination and the tint are on different clocks. Lamination holds four to six weeks. A brow tint usually fades in two to four weeks, faster on oily skin.

Many clients get them together at the first appointment, then a tint on its own halfway through.

What lamination will not do

It will not create brow hair. If you have real gaps with no hair in them, lamination can brush the surrounding hairs over the gap, but it cannot fill an area that is truly bare.

It also will not make coarse, unruly brows behave forever. It makes them behave for a month or so at a time, which for most people is the whole point.

Frequently asked questions

Can I wash my face after brow lamination?

Yes, just keep water off the brows for the first 24 to 48 hours. Wash around the brow area with a damp cloth instead of rinsing your whole face in the shower spray.

Why did my brow lamination go frizzy?

Frizz usually means the hair was over-processed or the brows are dry. Daily brow oil after the first 48 hours helps, and your next appointment should use a shorter processing time.

How soon can I get brow lamination redone?

Wait at least six weeks, and eight is better. Re-processing too soon causes breakage that takes months to grow back.

Does brow lamination work on thin brows?

It works well on thin brows that still have hair, because lifting and spreading the hairs makes the brow read fuller. It cannot fill an area with no hair at all.

Can I wear makeup over laminated brows?

Yes, after the first 24 hours. Most people find they need much less brow product than before, and a clear gel is often enough.
