How do I choose a wedding makeup artist in Maine?

Do you do wedding makeup on the southern Maine coast?
Portland is about 40 minutes from my studio, and parking and elevators are the usual delay there, so I build in extra arrival time. Kennebunkport is about an hour and ten minutes, and summer traffic near Dock Square is the main risk, so I leave Lewiston early. Ogunquit is about an hour and twenty five minutes, and Route 1 summer traffic is slow, so I plan my arrival well ahead of your start time.
Farther south, York is about an hour and a half away. Closer to Portland, Cape Elizabeth is a short drive down the turnpike, so early ceremony times are simple.
Do you travel to Camden and the Midcoast?
Camden is about an hour and a half from Lewiston, and ceremonies there are often outdoors, so I schedule a final check right before you walk out. Brunswick is about 40 minutes, close enough for an early start with no overnight needed. Boothbay Harbor is about an hour and twenty minutes, and one road carries the peninsula traffic in summer, so I add buffer to my arrival.
Do you travel to Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island?
Bar Harbor is about three hours from Lewiston, about 165 miles. For an early Mount Desert Island ceremony I plan travel the day before rather than the morning of. Southwest Harbor and Northeast Harbor are about three hours and fifteen minutes away. For a Cranberry Isles wedding the ferry schedule sets the morning, so I plan my arrival around the boat.
Do you travel to the Lakes Region?
I travel to lakeside weddings too, and travel is quoted on the round trip drive time from Lewiston. Poland is about 15 minutes from the studio, so early call times cost very little in travel. Rangeley is about two hours with patchy service on the way, so I confirm the details with you in writing before the morning.
Do you travel to the rest of Maine?
I travel to every part of the state, including:

How is travel priced across Maine?
Travel is $100 an hour round trip from Lewiston, and I confirm the figure at booking. As a guide, Portland comes to about $140, Camden about $300 and Bar Harbor about $600. For long drives like Bar Harbor, I talk with you about coming the night before.
PRICING
- Bridal makeup $300 for the bride, and that price includes the bridal preview.
- Each bridesmaid or guest $130. Bride plus one is $430 and bride plus two is $560. Send how many people are having makeup for anything larger.
- Makeup lesson $100 for one on one time with your own products.
- On location travel $100 per hour, quoted for your town and confirmed at booking.
Brides and everyone in the bridal party getting makeup done by me get 10% off all my other services.
A 50 percent deposit holds your date. The balance is due two weeks before the wedding.
Long drives like Bar Harbor, Rangeley or Jackson are covered by the same $100 per hour round trip travel fee. When an overnight makes sense, I handle the accommodations and it is settled case by case at booking.
Everything is confirmed in writing before your date is held.

PLANNING BY SEASON IN MAINE
Maine changes a lot from one season to the next, and so does the way I build wedding makeup.
Spring
Spring is mud season, with cool mornings, rain and skin that is still dry from winter. I focus on moisture and a soft, fresh finish, and I keep the lash line waterproof in case of showers. Plan for wet ground if you are getting ready somewhere rural.
Summer
On the coast, summer brings heat and humidity. I use lighter layers, set the areas that shine, and choose products that hold up to warmth. Getting ready rooms can get hot, so a fan or an open window helps everyone.
Fall
Foliage weekends are popular, and roads can be busier, so I leave extra time for the drive. Sunsets come earlier in fall, which often moves photos earlier too. Warmer, richer tones suit the season well if you want them.
Winter
Cold air and indoor heat both dry the skin. I spend longer on hydration, use creams in place of powder where I can, and keep the look soft so it does not settle into dry patches. Winter light is low and cool, so a little warmth in the cheeks goes a long way.
MATCH THE MORNING TO THE PLACE
A lakeside camp, a coastal inn and a family house can each make a different getting ready plan. Tell me which room will be available, whether I can park near the entrance and when the photographer wants the first photos. I bring lighting, but a clear table and chair near a window help me work without taking over the space where people are dressing. If the ceremony is elsewhere, remember to include the drive or walk between the two places in the ready time you send me.
For a longer Maine drive, I quote travel from the Lewiston studio using the round trip time, then talk through an early departure or overnight when the schedule calls for it. Weather and traffic can change the arrival plan even when the makeup itself stays the same. At the bridal preview I can look at your references with you in good light and decide how much definition you want for the setting, whether that is a shaded barn or bright water. The wedding morning should reflect that plan, not a generic version of it.
