Should I choose natural or soft glam bridal makeup?

Choose natural if you want to look like your best everyday self, and soft glam if you want more definition around the eyes and a finished look in photos. My bridal makeup in Maine includes a preview in the $300 bride price, and that is where I settle the look with you.

At your preview in my Lewiston studio, I can show you a lighter and a deeper eye in the same light. The harder question is usually how much of the look the camera will pick up.

Clients have left me 60 five star reviews across Google, The Knot, WeddingWire and Facebook, and Google sits at 5.0 from 33 of them. You can read them on Google before you choose a look.

What is natural bridal makeup?

Natural bridal makeup is skin first. The goal is even, fresh skin, softly defined brows and lashes, a little color on the cheeks and a lip close to your own. People should see you, not the makeup.

It suits you if you wear little makeup day to day and want to recognize yourself in every photo. Natural does not mean bare. It still has a long wear base and lashes when they suit you, so it lasts through a long day.

Natural makeup also leans on what you already have. If you are planning lash extensions or brow lamination before the wedding, your own lashes and brows already look finished, and the makeup can stay lighter. I can help you time them at your preview.

What is soft glam wedding makeup?

Soft glam keeps the same fresh skin and adds shape and depth. Think of a blended eye with more definition, fuller lashes, a little more sculpting on the face and a lip that holds its own in photos. It is soft rather than dramatic, just turned up a step.

It suits you if you like a finished look, or if you want the makeup to carry through an evening reception. Landing somewhere between the two is common, and that middle ground is easy to find at the preview.

The lip is often the deciding detail. A lip close to your own color reads natural even with a defined eye, while a deeper rose or berry pulls the whole face toward soft glam. Trying both at the preview settles it quickly.

What is natural glam wedding makeup?

Natural glam wedding makeup sits between the two. Skin still looks like skin, and the look adds a little more shape on the eyes, fuller lashes and a lip a shade deeper than your own. Landing here is common for brides who want soft natural wedding makeup that still reads as finished in evening photos.

What wedding makeup styles can I choose from?

Wedding makeup styles usually fall into four directions, and each one starts with the same long wear skin.

  • Natural: even, fresh skin, softly defined brows and lashes and a lip close to your own.
  • Natural glam: the natural base with more shape on the eyes, fuller lashes and a slightly deeper lip.
  • Soft glam: a blended, defined eye, more sculpting and a lip that holds its own in photos.
  • Soft smokey eye: deeper tones blended out so the look stays romantic rather than harsh.

All four count as soft bridal makeup. At your preview, included in the $300 bride price, I can show you a lighter and a deeper version side by side so you choose with your own face in front of you.

What bridal eye makeup looks can I ask for?

Bridal eye looks usually fall into one of three directions. Soft definition keeps the lid clean, with a little depth in the crease and a lifted lash. Soft glam adds more blending and a touch more liner, so the eye holds up in evening photos.

A soft smokey eye uses deeper tones blended out until the look stays romantic rather than harsh. Brown, blue, green and hazel eyes all take soft neutrals well, and I adjust undertones so the color supports your eyes. Definition at the lash line and a tidy brow usually do more for photos than a bright lid.

How does each look read on camera?

Both look good in photos. The difference is how much definition you want the camera to catch. Makeup that seems a little strong up close often reads correctly on camera, especially in bright outdoor light.

If you are unsure, bring photos of looks you love and a few you do not. I will show you where your own features sit between natural and soft glam. You can also look through my bridal portfolio for finished looks on real faces.

I look at your dress photo and your setting at the preview. A simple dress and an outdoor ceremony often pair with a natural face, and a structured gown with an evening reception often suits soft glam, but that is a starting point, not a rule.

How does the season change my bridal makeup?

I plan for the season and the setting as much as the style. For a coastal summer wedding in a town like Yarmouth or Northeast Harbor, I use lighter layers, set the areas that shine and keep the lash line waterproof. For a winter wedding I spend longer on hydration.

Either look gets the same long wear products in thin layers, and the bride keeps a small touch up kit. If you know you cry easily, tell me at the preview and I plan the eyes for it. My post on makeup that lasts a Maine summer wedding covers heat, wind and beach ceremonies.

How do I choose at the bridal preview?

The preview is a full run of your wedding makeup, usually at my studio in Lewiston. Come with clean, moisturized skin and no makeup on, plus your photos and your veil if you have it. I can show you a lighter and a deeper eye in the same light, so you choose with your own face in front of you.

When you like it, I photograph it and write down what I used. The wedding morning repeats that look. You can read more about what happens at the bridal preview before you book yours.

Your bridesmaids do not have to follow your choice. Before I start on anyone, I ask what they want, so a natural bride can stand beside a soft glam maid of honor, or the other way around. My post on bridesmaid makeup looks covers how parties usually decide.

I take one wedding per date, so when you have a date and a town, check your date with me and I will reply within one business day with the line items for your morning.

Questions, answered

What is natural glam wedding makeup?

Natural glam wedding makeup keeps skin looking like skin, then adds a little more shape on the eyes, fuller lashes and a lip a shade deeper than your own. It is the middle ground between natural and soft glam. At Bridgette Aesthetics in Lewiston, Maine, I settle where you land at your bridal preview, which is included in the $300 bride price.

What wedding makeup styles can I choose from?

Wedding makeup styles usually fall into four directions: natural, natural glam, soft glam and a soft smokey eye. All four start with the same long wear skin and differ in how much definition the eyes and lips get. At Bridgette Aesthetics I can show you a lighter and a deeper version side by side at your bridal preview, included in the $300 bride price.

Natural or soft glam: which should I choose for my wedding?

Choose natural if you want to look like yourself on a very good day. Choose soft glam if you want more definition and a finished look that carries into the evening.

Is a smokey eye too much for a daytime wedding?

Not if it is built soft. A bridal smokey eye is blended and low contrast, so it photographs well in daylight without looking heavy.

Will my eye makeup last if I cry?

Yes, when I know to plan for it. Tell me at the preview if you cry easily. I use waterproof product on the lash line when the day calls for it, and the bride keeps a small touch up kit.

Is eye makeup included in the bridal price?

Yes. The bride is $300 with the bridal preview included, and that covers the full face including the eyes. Each additional person is $130.

Can I try both looks before the wedding?

Yes. That is what the bridal preview is for. I can show you a softer and a fuller version in the same light so you can compare.

Can my bridesmaids choose a different look?

Yes. I ask each person what they want before I start. A party can match, or each person can choose.
